“I had a lightbulb moment when I realised that there were thousands of other women in the same situation as me and yet I’d never seen anyone walking around with one breast.”

Katy Marks

Post surgery bras were soft, but not supportive, whilst the tight elastic of standard bra straps slowed the scar healing process and exacerbated the tenderness of my skin after radiotherapy.

I had a lightbulb moment when I realized that there were thousands of other women in the same situation as me and yet I’d never seen anyone walking around with one breast. I realised we were all doing our best to disguise it and found myself wondering why we should hide what had happened to our bodies as if it made us less feminine? I started cutting up bras and sewing my own one cup creations. I took piles of sketches and ideas to Rachel Kenyon who made beautiful bespoke versions but I wanted to find a way of making this accessible to more women.

Lingerie specialists Aimee Mcwilliams, Sarah Raskino and Maxine Wells have helped me develop new patterns to ensure comfort and support without compromising on looking incredible. Together we’ve created a lingerie range made with wonderfully soft, sustainable fabrics with styles that are brilliantly supportive and gorgeously elegant. Creating -unobra has made me feel that it is possible to look in the mirror again and feel like myself. We would love you to try one of our -unobras and register for updates on new styles and colours.
